I’m sure the fact that I’m a Hugh Laurie fan plays into my review of this series. The plot, characters and setting hold their own against similar Le Carre films. A spy genre enthusiast will come away satisfied.
Tom Hiddleston does a wonderful job as Jonathan Pine— dashing and daring and willing to take a punch. There are more sexual overtones and less overt sex. There are smart assured moves that sometimes go awry. And in the end we’re just not sure how it all works out for our hero.
The supporting actors also do their part. Of course Olivia Colman is a pro, Camilla Marronne is classic Bond girl with a smart mouth and Indira Varma pegs the upper crust climber.
I hope they don’t take quite as long for Season 3.
